Hariyali Chunri Project

Narmada devotees have been presenting traditional chunri to Narmada maa from years. The symbolic chunri is 9 ft long on 1312 km long Narmada River. Today we need Green Chunri for Narmada Maa to enhance her beauty and to stop erosion on slopes and banks. This chunri (Green Belt) will help increasing the biodiversity on the banks as well. This will give immense pleasure and sanctity to the people living on the banks as well as the travelers.

Who will plant the Chunri :

Any one who wants to serve Narmada Maa can do this. We can categorize them in 3 ways:

    1. As a family: Husband wife, brother sisters, Mother Father, they all can do this together as a unit.
    2. As a group: Different social groups or group of people can come together to do this
    3. As an institute: NGO,  SHG, different institutes govt, non govt , all can come forward as a unit to do this work

For how long?

It will take 5-7 years for chunri to take a shape of a small forest.  Then a special pooja will be done for Narmada maa to accept it.

Selection of trees :

According to the requirement of Narmada Area indigenous species are suitable for the chunri. Like Bamboo, Mango, Mahua, Neem, Jamun, Achar, Bhilva, Arjun, Jharul, Saptparni, Kachnar, Amaltas, Imli, Saal, Maulshri, Gooler, Paker, Peepal, Bargad, Chandan etc. These species are naturally found in the catchment area of Narmada. If needed, training regarding the tree plantation will be provided to the volunteers.

Protection of Chunri :

Volunteers will be responsible for the area selection for plantation, preparation or other related things. Narmada Samagra will provide them required information.

CPT : cattle proof trench will be made of poles and barbed wires to make a boundary around chunri to make it safe from animals.

Where to plant:

This chunri will be developed on the banks of Narmada River on both sides. Chunri can be started from the top point of any bank starting from 5 meter to any length. This will be developed along Narmada River leaving the space for commute and walk.

1. On Personal Land : Request the Farmer or owner of the land to do the plantation to stop erosion on the slopes and shores.
2. Government's Land : To get the support of Nagar Palika and Gram Panchayat to leave the land and use it for plantation.
3. Forest Land: Provide the protection to the trees already there, also plant new trees when there is any available space.
