Current Activities

The Narmada Samagra's activities include representing Narmada River's environmental, water, heritage and sustainable development interests in a range of regional and international forum. Other activities are in their preliminary phase but gaining full support from the Narmada community, which acts as a motivating factor for the Narmada Samagra.

The Hariyali Chunari Project

This is a M.P.government's initiative towards restoration of forest and biodiversity alongside the river Narmada. During the project, plantation of various tree and grass species is proposed on banks of the river. The Narmadasamagra is an implimenting agency for the project. The plantation shall be done according to the area specific natural biodiversity. Also the economic medicinal and environmental value will be taken in to consideration for plantation.After plantation arrangements will be done for protection of plants upto seven years

NRHI ( Narmada River health index)

In a meeting in Narmada Samagra recently a decision has been made regarding Narmada River’s health. Gen. Secretary of Narmada Samagra Mr. Anil Dave said in the meeting that Narmada is a Living water body. Just like a human being Narmada's health should also be checked every year. He declared to publish a complete report on Narmada River's Health every year on 15th June in the form of Health Chart (NRHI).

Paryawaran Panchkoshi Yatras

Organizing Paryawaran Panchkoshi Yatras in the villages located at the banks of Narmada River,  to start a campaign of awareness in community to stop pollution. Effluents from industries, towns and villages are dumped into the River Narmada and its Tributaries. Which highly affect the water quality. In these yatras groups of people walk for an average of 15-20 km for minimum 2-5 days in certain segments of Narmada region. These Panchkoshi yatras are in smaller circuits and culminate at the point of commencement after a journey of 5 days. These Parikramas being simpler and less time taking are more suitable for families and old people.

Awareness campaigns

The Narmada Samagra has planned to conduct various awareness campaigns in villages and cities located on both the banks of river Narmada, right from  Amarkantak to Bharooch,for restoration and conservation of the river.

Research and development

The Narmada Samagra wishes to develop a research and development centre with the Aims of
- Restoration and conservation of the river Narmada.
- Development of international coalition for comprehensive development.

Cleaning of Ghats

On Indian new year 'Gudi Padwa' in the month of April, the Narmada samagra launched a cleaning of Ghats program on 71 Big and medium size Ghats on both the banks of the river Narmada,from Amarkantak to Bharooch.
This program is being organized each Sunday, in which several people take part voluntarily to remove debris from the Ghats.
